What is BookBub?
As you can see from the image, it’s a site where authors can list their books (if they have an account). It’s also a site where users can follow readers and authors. Users can also rate and review books.
All these are important. BookBub is another site where authors, especially indie authors, can be discovered by readers. Readers can tell others about the books they enjoy. But the same can be said about a couple of other book-listing sites. What makes BookBub different?
First off, the review process is fairly easy. As you can see from the image below, you can give a book a star rating and click on those aspects of the book you enjoyed. You don’t have to write a full review. Those aspects can be enough to tell others what you liked and why they should read that book.
Another advantage of BookBub are the deals. You can check in to see if there are deals on books you’ve added to your wishlist. You can also look over deals on books in the genres you tend to read. These deals tend to be for ebooks, but can be available at bookstores other than Amazon.
For readers, there’s one more advantage when you follow authors: you can get notified when authors you follow release new books. Everything is automatic. Once you sign up and follow an author, you’ll get an email from BookBub when that author has a new release out.
When you get that email can depend on the author. Some authors are able to get their releases set close to the actual release day. This means you might hear about the book before the author sends out their newsletter. I tend not to take care of my books until after my newsletter goes out.
This is a good feature if you don’t want to sign up to conventional email newsletters. This is also helpful if authors you like don’t have a newsletter, or send out newsletters less frequently than they publish their books. You will miss out on the goodies that authors put in their newsletters. But for some, a quick release email might be all that they really want.
If you’re an indie author you should absolutely sign up for BookBub and claim your books. There are paid advertising and marketing opportunities on BookBub. There’s others who can speak to the value of those, so I suggest you search out their experiences if you’re thinking of advertising. I myself believe it’s enough to have an account and keep your book releases up to date.
That’s all I have to say for now about BookBub. Obviously, if you join or already have an account you can follow me.
Here’s where you can follow me on social media & buy my books.
Happy writing & happy reading!
